Pokéfall uses limited anonymous analytics to keep the product reliable and learn how its search and discovery tools are used.
What Pokéfall records
Pokéfall records the route you visit, browser performance, application errors, search terms, and product interactions such as opening a result or accepting an autocomplete suggestion. If you choose to send an idea, PostHog also stores its category, message, and the Pokéfall route that led you to the feedback page. That form has one optional email field: leave it blank and your idea stays anonymous, or fill it in and the address is stored with that idea and used only to ask you a follow-up question about it — never for updates or marketing. This helps find broken flows and understand which parts of the product are useful or worth exploring next.
Anonymous recognition
PostHog stores a random device identifier in first-party Pokéfall browser storage so the same anonymous browser can be recognized across visits and placed consistently in a product experiment. Staging and Production use separate host-scoped identifiers. Clearing Pokéfall site data in your browser resets the identifier.
Feature availability check
Once per browser tab, Pokéfall sends itself a one-line note saying whether its feature settings loaded for you — and, if not, which way that failed and how long it waited. It exists because a visitor whose analytics connection is blocked is invisible to analytics, so the count of people affected has to travel by a different road. The note contains no identifier, no cookie, and no search term: it carries the outcome, the page route, and nothing else, and it is counted rather than stored against a person.
Service providers
PostHog processes product analytics and errors. Vercel hosts Pokéfall and processes route-level analytics and performance measurements. IP addresses are anonymized before analytics processing.
What is not enabled
Pokéfall has no accounts and the idea inbox does not ask for a name or email address. It does not call PostHog's identify function or build identified visitor profiles. Session replay, heatmaps, pop-up surveys, automatic click capture, and console-log capture are disabled. The feedback page is the only user-initiated survey surface.
